About Me

I was born into a family of teachers, so it was no surprise when I announced that I would spend my first two college years in an Early Childhood Education program. I went on to study Elementary Education and graduate from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York in January 2000.

After spending 7 years in New York, my husband and I (he was working for an internet company, I was teaching) decided to head south to Belize to pursue a different pace.

One sunny day, I blew in off the beach with my resume in hand. I proudly presented it to Ms. Dixie, and my position was secured shortly thereafter. I taught the Island Academy’s Infant I & II class in the 2005-2006 school year.

This year, which will be my third at the Island Academy, I look forward to having Teacher Melissa’s former Beginners as my charges in Infant I once again.
